Cucuy Confessionals

Legends fall onto ears of children
while she wails to be forgotten.

– From Our Rivers that Haunt by P.C. Suarez

Welcome!

Cucuy Confessionals is a collection of supernatural stories straight from the borderlands. Growing up in Las Milpas, which was back then a colonia in South Texas, and McAllen, TX, I was surrounded by stories that sent chills down my spine and brought our culture’s mystery to life. This page is my space to share that folklore – stories, poems, links, and more about the eerie creatures, or “cucuys,” that haunt our nights. Occasionally using my Tex-Mex Spanglish slang, this is a tribute to the strange, spooky cuentos that shaped many of us Tejanos. Welcome to the heart of borderland legends, where the line between the living and the otherworldly blurs.
